Gauge
With 5 mm crochet hook, 14 sts over 9 rows = 4”. Made in hdc
Adjust hook size if necessary, to obtain gauge.

Construction Note
This project is made in 3 sections.
Section 1 – The cowl body is made in rounds.
Section 2 – The spider web lace is added to the body until both are of the same height.
Section 3 – The brim joins both the spiderweb lace and the body of the cowl on either side.
Pattern:
Section 1: Cowl base
With Color A
Round 1: Chain 72 (80, 88, 96), with a sl st join to the first chain to form a circle, ch 2, hdc in each chain across, join with a sl st to the beginning ch 2 sp. 72 (80, 88, 96) hdc
Rounds 2 – 10 (12, 14, 16): Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join with a sl st to the beginning ch 2 sp. 72 (80, 88, 96) hdc
Fasten off color A, join color B.
Section 2 – Spiderweb Lace
Switch to 5.5mm crochet hook
With right side facing you.
Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join with a sl st to the beginning ch 2 sp. 72 (80, 88, 96) sc
Round 2: Ch 11 (counts as first dc + ch 8 sp, here and throughout the pattern), *skip next 7 sts, dc in next st, ch 8, rep from * to the last 7 sts, skip next 7 sts, ch 8, sl st to the beginning ch sp. 9 (10, 11, 12) ch sps
Rounds 2 – 9 (10, 11, 12): Ch 11, *skip next ch sp, dc in next st, ch 8, rep from * to the end, sl st to the beginning ch sp. 9 (10, 11, 12) ch sps
Flip the spiderweb over the cowl base, add or reduce the number of lace until you have enough length to cover it.
Do not fasten off.
Joining the spiderweb lace to the cowl base
- Secure with stitch markers both panels at the same levels.
- If the spiderweb lace is too short or too long compared to the cowl, you can add or remove one or two more rounds of lace.
Continue with color B
Section 3: Brim
- Crocheting over the two panels (ch sps and the remaining sts in section 1).
- It’s easier to crochet around the chains than into the chains.
- Evenly, space the sts (hdc) around the chain spaces and the stitches from the last round on the cowl.
Round 1: Ch 1, 7 hdc over both panels around, join with a sl st to the beginning ch sp. 72 (80, 88, 96) hdc
Round 2: Ch 1,working in 3rd loop around, hdc in each st, join with a sl st to the beginning ch. 72 (80, 88, 96) hdc
Rounds 3 – 4 (4, 5, 5): Repeat round 2.
Cut yarn
Other end
Join color B with a sl st to any stitch on the other end.
