Materials:

Size 10 thread in 2 different colors
(Flower color/Stem Color)
Size 7 steel hook (1.65)
Needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size: About 18 inches. Flower Parts: Small Bloom- 7/8«inch/ Bigger Bloom- 1 1/8»inches

Note: When doing sc rnds you may want to crochet over the tail as you go it will help with weaving in ends some on the bloom.

Directions:

Small Bloom:

Rnd 1: With Flower color ch2, 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook, join with sl st to front loop of first sc. (6sc)

Rnd 2: [Ch3, sl st in front loop of next st] Do this 5 times, ch3, sl st intp joining sl st from Rnd 1. (6-ch3 loops)

Note:Rnd 3 is worked in the back loops left free from working in front loops only on Rnd 2. You’ll be working behind the ch3 loops. This will also be the case with Rnd 5 from working in front loop on Rnd 4 and if doing Bigger Bloom with Rnd 7 from working in front loops on Rnd 6.

Rnd 3: 1 sc in first back loop, 2 sc in next back loop, [1 sc in next back loop, 2 sc in next back loop] Do this 2 times, join with sl st to front loop of first sc. (9sc)

Rnd 4: [Ch3, sl st in front loop of next st] Do this 8 times, ch3, sl st into joining sl st from Rnd 3. (9-ch3 loops)

Rnd 5: 1 sc in first back loop, 1 sc in each of the next 8 back loops, join with sl st to first sc. (9sc)

Rnd 6: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, [ch3, 1 sc in next st] Do this 8 times, ch3, join with sl st to first sc. (9-ch3 loops)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Big Bloom:

Rnds 1-4: Follow directions for Rnds 1 thru 4 of Smaller Bloom.

Rnd 5: 1 sc in first back loop, 1 sc in next back loop, 2 sc in next back loop, [1 sc in each of the next 2 back loops, 2 sc in next back loop] Do this 2 times, join with sl st to front loop of first sc. (12sc)

Rnd 6: [Ch3, sl st in front loop of next st] Do this 11 times, ch3, sl st into joining sl st from Rnd 5. (12-ch3 loops)

Rnd 7: 1 sc in first back loop, 1 sc in each of the next 11 back loops, join with sl st to first sc. (12sc)

Rnd 8: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, [ch3, 1 sc in next st] Do this 11 times, ch3, join with sl st to first sc. (12-ch3 loops)

Finish of and weave in ends.

Stem:

Part 1: Insert hook from back of bloom through one side of Rnd 1 and then out the other side of Rnd 1.

Part 2: With Stem Color measure out 56”inches of thread, at the 56th inch mark fold thread over, this will create a loop, you will be working from the thread cone too. (Or if you want you can just measure out 112”inches, snip it and then fold it in half to create the loop. I prefer not to do this and just work from the cone because I tend to have fewer problems with tangling.)

Part 3: Put loop onto hook and pull through sides out of bloom. Now working with both strands of thread chain until you have 5”inches of the one thread left. Fasten off from cone leaving a tail of the same length.

Note:If you want your stem to be more like a paperback length. Measure 40”inches and then fold at the 40”inch mark and work as in directions.

Tassel: Cut 4-10”inch strands of thread in the Flower color and then another 4 strands in the Stem color. Insert hook into last chain made, fold pieces of thread over hook, pull up a loop (with pieces of thread), take hook out of loop and pull loose ends through loop and pull taut. Make a knot to secure tassel (optional). Trim tassel to make sure it’s even or to desired length.

Note:The way I did the stem I incorporate it into a lot of bookmarks that have a bead/charm/button on one end and a tassel on the other. It’s fast and leaves no ends to weave in because both ends are on the bottom of the bookmark and can be worked into the tassel. You’d just have to draw the loop created from folding thread through the hole in the bead or holes through a button or a loop on a charm and then start chaining away.
